Enzymatic biotinylation is particularly advantageous when precise control over the site of biotinylation is required. Here are key aspects of enzymatic biotinylation:

  1. Biotin Ligase (BirA): BirA is an enzyme found in E. coli that plays a critical role in attaching biotin to proteins. BirA catalyzes the covalent attachment of biotin to a specific target peptide sequence, known as the "BirA recognition sequence."
