Platypus Venom Solutions

The platypus is one of only two spawning mammals and one of the few venomous mammals. Despite its cute appearance, the spines on the hind limbs of the platypus can release venom, a mixture of substances that can cause extreme pain. However, research on platypus venom found that platypus venom may be useful for the treatment of diabetes.

Platypus venom is a useful biomedical tool. There are similar biomolecules that can treat diabetes and play an important but unknown biological role. Creative Proteomics provides platypus venom solutions to conduct research on platypus venom in order to discover new molecules and effective drugs.

Platypus Venom Protein/Peptide Introduction

The early separated and identified platypus venom proteins have five different types of molecules: defensin-like peptides (DLP), Ornithorhynchus venom C-type natriuretic peptides (OvCNPs), Ornithorhynchus nerve growth factor, hyaluronidase and L-to-D- Peptide isomerase. These active molecules may collectively cause swelling, lower blood pressure, and pain. Although several of these molecules have been sequenced, their functions have not yet been cracked. Platypus venom also has protease activity, which also helps to dissolve tissues and promote the spread of venom. Therefore, Creative Proteomics provides you with solutions for platypus venom and continues to explore its venom protein/peptide, perhaps the new venom protein has potential biomedical and therapeutic applications.

Our Platypus Venom Solutions

In order to understand the secrets of platypus venom, we provide services for collecting samples of platypus venom and using high-tech analytical instruments to separate and characterize its components.

  • Platypus venom collection and sample preparation

In accordance with the permission of the Animal Administration and the Animal Experiment Ethics Committee, we collect samples of individual platypus venom. Measure the basic physical signs of individual samples, dissect their venom glands, suck out the venom from the venom duct, and dilute the crude venom for later use.

  • Platypus venom identification by omics methods

Combining genomics, transcriptome and proteomics methods, we will discover novel toxins in the platypus venom. Including the construction of venom gland cDNA library, library paired-end sequencing, reading check comparison, gene prediction and verification, RNA sequencing, differential expression, functional annotation and enrichment analysis, LC-MS/MS and other specific service items.

Technical Route

We determine the gene codes expressed in the platypus venom glands, identify proteins involved in processes such as hemostasis, inflammation, and pain, and verify these venom proteins. These toxins may serve as potential sources of biomedical active molecules. The specific technical route of our work is as follows:

Platypus Venom Solutions

Advantages

  • Rapid genome-wide approach. It can be used in any toxic species, including species that cannot perform genome assembly.
  • The combination of proteomics analysis and transcriptome analysis of seasonal and off-season venom glands. This can cover the largest range of proteins well.
  • Integrated omics methods. Using an integrated scheme to identify platypus venom proteins/peptides can amplify and sequence new venom molecules.

We can cooperate with customers at any stage of the research on platypus venom, select the appropriate analysis process, and the experienced professional team can provide customized solutions for complex research situations. Creative Proteomics is committed to providing comprehensive venom research services to promote your venom protein/peptide development plan.
