Description | Apis mellifera. Ca2+-activated K+ channels blocker. This centrally acting neurotoxic peptide originally isolated from the venom of Apis melifica, is the smallest neurotoxic polypeptide known and is the only polypeptide neurotoxin that passes the blood-brain barrier. It blocks small-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels at nanomolar concentrations, induces motor hyperactivity and causes clonic convulsions and respiratory failure. |
